Giving Quarterly

Our final Giving Quarterly Event for 2010 was excellent! We had a great time preparing a home cooked meal and visiting with some of the people staying at the Ronald McDonald House. One person told us that the laughter and cheerfulness was a nice mini break from the difficult time that she was going through. We look forward to doing it again in the future!

General Membership Meeting/ Election

We had a very productive general membership meeting and election at the beginning of October. We received lots of great feedback and future event suggestions. OCA Colorado would like to congratulate Harry Budisidharta, Cassandra Chanthavong, Tina Choi, and Zongbing Li for being elected to the Board. We look forward to your enthusiasm and input into our organization!

9/11 Day of Service

This quarter's GQ (Giving Quarterly) project will be held on September 11, 2010, Our National Day of Service. This is a day that is set aside twice a year to encourage people to volunteer to better their community. OCA Colorado encourages you to join us in volunteering at

the Project C.U.R.E. facility, 10377 E Geddes Ave, Centennial, CO 80112, from 1-3pm. This is an excellent opportunity to help out our community! Please let us know that you would like to volunteer by emailing ocacolorado@gmail.com or

10th Annual Dragon Boat Festival

The Dragon Boat Festival this past weekend was jammed packed with lots of fun and entertainment for everyone! The performances were breathtaking, the food was delicious and the races were super exciting. We are glad to see that the flag catching boats were back. We hope you had a great time at the event and encourage you to participate next year!

A Community Affair

Today we had our Picnic Potluck Picnic! We hope you had a great time getting acquainted with many of the amazing Asian Organizations in our community. If you weren't able to join us this year, we hope that you get the opportunity to attend next year!

2010 Asian American Heroes

Congratulations to all the recipients of the 2010 Asian American Heroes Of Colorado Award. Thanks for bettering our Community!!! Our heroes were recently recognized at a brunch at Saigon Landing. The year's group included this following well deserved recipients:

March National Board Meeting

OCA Colorado was happy to host the Spring 2010 National Board Meeting. It was a very productive couple of days! We enjoyed getting acquainted with old and new friends! We hope that everyone enjoyed their trip to Colorado.

Lunar New Year Celebration

OCA Colorado and Mile-Hi JACL would like to thank everyone for their support by attending our Annual Lunar New Year Dinner. It was a spectacular event! The food was delicious and the entertainment was amazing. We hope that you enjoyed our Speaker and Master of Ceremonies, Mr. Richard Lui of CNN, Lion Dance and Kung Fu Demonstration by Shifu Howie Solow and his students, Pipa Performance by Ms. Yu Ying Chen, Chinese Folk Songs by Ms. Moon Lee and Ms. Hing Ryder, and Mirai Daiko.

We would like to give a special thanks to those that were able to bring a canned food item benefiting The Food Bank of The Rockies, and those that were able to make a donation to The Red Cross benefiting the Haiti Earthquake victims.

Richard Lui - Emcee for Lunar New Year Celebration on Februray 6, 2010 at The Palace

Richard Lui is a news anchor for HLN, serving as an anchor for the network’s late morning programming and as a news correspondent for Morning Express with Robin Meade. Based in CNN’s world headquarters in Atlanta, Lui joined CNN in 2005 as an anchor for CNN.com.

Since joining CNN, Lui has anchored live coverage of major breaking stories including the Virginia Tech shooting, the Hezbollah-Israeli conflict, the Mumbai train terrorist bombings and the Enron guilty verdicts. Lui’s reporting has also taken him to Singapore to research container scanning technology at the world’s busiest port and to Indonesia to examine underage sex slavery and the economic effects of the 2002 Bali bombings. His recent field reporting focused on the implications of terrorist activity and strategic efforts to counter the use of improvised explosive devices (IEDs). Lui also leads HLN’s morning “Election Connection” coverage throughout the 2008 election season.

Prior to CNN, Lui worked at Channel NewsAsia, an English-only news network reaching 21 Asian countries and territories. Based in Asia, Lui anchored major breaking news stories including the 2004 tsunami in Banda Aceh and the 2003 SARS outbreak in Hong Kong. He also anchored live election results for Taiwan’s 2004 presidential election and “America Decides 2004,” the network’s U.S. presidential election coverage.

Before joining Channel NewsAsia, Lui spent 15 years in business, most recently serving at Blink Mobile, where he and his co-founders developed a patented process for the launch of the first bank-centric payment routing network. His business career focused on new venture creation in various management capacities at firms such as Citibank, Mercer Management Consulting and Lazarus Data Recovery. Earlier in his career, he had multi-year stints during the early growth stages of Mrs. Fields Cookies, and QED, an international oil spill clean-up equipment manufacturer.

Since 1985, Lui has volunteered at community organizations including the American Indian Healing Center, the Red Cross and the YMCA. He is also a pro bono management consultant to non-profits through an organization called Community Consulting.

Lui received his bachelor degree in rhetoric from the University of California-Berkeley and holds an MBA from the Ross School of Business at the University of Michigan.
